Originally designed and built in the 1920s by Charlotte architect Louis Asbury, who also designed the now-renovated Church on Parkwood Apartments, this Romanesque Revival church retained many original features during its transformation. Our design team prioritized preserving as many of these elements as possible.
The church’s original stained glass windows were repurposed as focal points within each unit and the entry vestibules. Throughout the building, the preserved original wood ceilings, resembling the hull of a boat, are exposed and highlighted.
The project involved saving the old church, constructing an addition, and adding roof terraces with uptown skyline views. The addition includes four new units, and the existing structure was renovated to incorporate the roof terraces.
