For the Southbound concept, we wanted to make sure the clientele could enjoy the space no matter the season. The open-air atmosphere of the dining room and bright, cheery decor project a sunny SoCal vibe.
We repurposed every piece of an existing shipping container, using the walls for cladding and planters, and using the floor as a roof canopy. And if you look closely enough, you can see that we even gave the Cluck stamp of approval on one of the exterior walls.
Large custom doors define the building’s area, making the dining space indoor or outdoor depending on the weather. The large, operable windows and doors allow for easy movement between the interior and exterior spaces. The design incorporates elements inspired by knee socks, board shorts, and skateboards/surfboards, which are reflected in the decor.
