Millhouse Apartments

Charlotte, NC

Our residential project on Seigle Ave in the Belmont neighborhood prioritized exceptional design while harmonizing with the local scale. Inspired by Belmont’s historic aesthetics, we crafted a building that resembled a cluster of smaller structures, blending seamlessly into the neighborhood’s character with varied entrances, exits, and sculptural shapes. In order to reduce costs associated with interior conditioned hallways, we designed an exterior covered walkway. This also brought in natural light from both ends of each unit and created an attractive courtyard that is open to residents’ front doors.  

The majority of the 28 units are two-bedroom apartments, which prompted us to implement proactive parking solutions and amenities for cyclists and pedestrians. Notably, our one-bedroom affordable units, below-ground parking deck, and unconditioned exterior walkways exemplify this commitment. Each two-bedroom unit features a parking stacker, minimizing the building’s footprint and enhancing pedestrian space. Accessibility to the nearby greenway is also a key feature of the project.
