MAS is an acronym for the ingredients that are used to make tortillas—maiz (corn), agua (water), and sal (salt). It is the culinary vision of seasoned restauranteurs Alyson and Dan Davis’s, transforming a former ground-floor storage warehouse into a super cool tortilleria and taqueria. At the heart of MAS lies a commitment to flavors, embodied by its specialization in freshly made tortillas. Utilizing high-quality masa imported directly from Central America, these tortillas are prepared daily on a tortilla machine, encased in glass and visible from the dining room. 

The patio merges the interior space with the energy of the surrounding environment. To optimize views of uptown from the outdoor dining area, the roof was angled accordingly and features a butterfly shape, with translucent panels. This outdoor area is further enhanced by a super colorful mural, adding a layer of visual interest and cultural context. There is also a custom-designed stove, featuring a robust concrete base and a striking, floating shroud crafted from corten steel. This innovative design not only serves a functional purpose by concealing the ventilation system but also acts as a sculptural focal point.

The selection of textiles and finishes throughout MAS underscores a deep appreciation for the handcrafted. Terracotta tiles and blocks provide a grounding element, their earthy tones and inherent variations adding character to the space. Basket weave light fixtures, sourced directly from Central America, evoke the feeling of walking through a bright market, and the handmade string art adds a touch of whimsy.
